Chapter 12 - Culture Shock - Case Study Report

I. Statement of the problem

A: Definition
- Dita’s culture shock and trouble about U.S’s life
B: Analysis
- Her English was not perfect
- She had never been away from her family
- She disliked America food
- She can rarely understand in class
- She had much work
-She was able to communicate with American students because they talked about sexual activities with their boyfriends.

II. Suggestion of possible solutions

A: She should adjust to America culture. And should study hard
B: She should talk with her roommate about Indonesia’s culture. And she asks to roommate for understand
C: Because she feels very tired and so hard, she should return to her country

III. Evaluation of possible Solution

A: adv: If she adjusts to America culture, she can more comfortable life
dis: It is too hard to adjust for her. Because she is Indonesian
B: adv: If her roommate understand her, Dita doesn’t need to worry about culture shock
dis: She can feel culture shock in other places
C: adv: She can live with family. And she can more comfortable, because she can use her language and can meet close friends
dis: She can’t graduate in U.S.

IV. Selection of a solution

“A” She should adjust to America culture. And she should study hard

- Justification
Because she went to U.S, adjusting America culture is reasonable thing. Surely It is too hard to due for her. But I think enduring something is also part of study. If she try to adjust, she can get a good result. Good Luck!!

Chapter 3 - Roommate Relations - Case Study Report

I. Statement of Problem

A. Definition
- Maria feel hard to adjust to American college life

B. Analysis
- Maria was shocked and upset, because American college life is different from her home country life

II. Suggestion of Possible Problems

A. Maria should try to adjust to American college life.
B. Maria should request to Jenny that is prudent behavior.
C. Maria move to Elena’s home and then she has to find another roommate.

III. Evaluation of Possible Solutions

A. Ad: it is more helpful to understand American college life
Dis: she maintain stressful situation continually

B. Ad: Maria’s roommate take care of her behavior
Dis: It is hard to persuade roommate

C. Ad: Maria feels more comfortable and she look forward to new roommate
Dis: relationship with roommate is still bad


IV. Selection of a solution

A. I choose solution B
B. Because Maria did not communicate with her roommate. She needs to communicate enough to solve. If Maria ask to roommate, her roommate will be able to understand, and her roommate is maybe take care of her behavior and she never did again.
